Saturday, October 7, 2017, 9:30am-3:30pm
Cal State University East Bay Music Dept.
25800 Carlos Bee Blvd, Hayward, CA
This workshop will focus on ways to engage students in creative music making experiences that are connected and responsive to culture and the environment. Through music, movement, art, literature, and conversation, we will compose place, that is, a space where people and sounds intersect to make meaning.
Saturday, February 10, 2018, 9:30am-3:30pm
Encinal School, 195 Encinal Ave, Atherton, CA
The Orff Schulwerk approach values the musical, poetic body in relation to music. It is based upon the assumption that everyone can dance musically, with intention and purpose. This workshop in elemental, creative dance will offer access into this relationship through rhythm and structure; through imagination and sensuality. Discussion and reflections of artistic-pedagogical approaches to teaching movement in music classes support the physical work.
Just added: A Master Class with Christa Coogan
Sunday, February 11, 2018, 9:00am-12:00pm — Cost $35

Learn about working with stage-space and allowing children to create music-inspired choreography. Class space is limited to only 25 participants. Don’t miss this opportunity! Participants should have completed at least Orff Level II. Since this is an additional workshop, and not part of our regular chapter offerings, the cost for members is $35. Reserve your spot today!

Chapter Treasures: Janet Greene & Sarah Noll
Saturday, April 28, 2018, 9:30am-3:30pm
The San Francisco School, 300 Gaven St, San Francisco, CA
Where to start in early childhood? Enter the magic sculpture garden, blow up a giant balloon, become a jellyfish in the ocean, and a skeleton in the graveyard. In this workshop for Pre-K to 3rd grade students you will experience creative movement-imagination activities, sound to symbol notation experiences, and research on children’s perception of rhythmic patterns
A young man is determined to bring peace to his village after his father is killed during negotiations with the neighboring village. He must pass seven demons to reach Lord Morning Star and return with the sacred flame. This Aztec tale represented in a beautiful picture book by Deborah Norse Latimore has many parallels today. Orff Schulwerk is the perfect way to realize such a tale, giving students a chance to create and weave in music and dance from many cultures. The material will represent my work with third through fifth grade students.
