Entertainment

We've got some great Bay Area performers lined up for evening entertainment at the conference. Here's what we know so far....

Thursday, November 15th, at 8:00PM: Keith Terry and Friends in the San José Civic Auditorium. We're so excited to be able to present Keith Terry's wonderful work to the National Orff Community. Rumor has it that among Keith's friends will be the fabulous Linda Tillery....

Friday, November 16th, at 7:00PM: Playing With Sticks

This is going to be an amazing show at the San José Civic Auditorium....Here's what we wrote for the "Call to Conference":

"Our Friday evening concerts feature three dynamic world percussion traditions represented by three of northern California’s most esteemed ensembles.

Gamelan Sekar Jaya is a company of musicians and dancers from the San Francisco Bay Area that specializes in the performing arts of Bali. Having studied and performed Bali's virtuosic ensemble music and its subtle and elegant dance styles for over 30 years, Gamelan Sekar Jaya has been recognized internationally as the finest Balinese gamelan ensembles outside of Indonesia.

Chinyakare Ensemble performs the beautiful and varied spectrum of Zimbabwean traditional music and dance. From the joyful sounds of the marimba, gourd rattles, and drums to the magical intimacy of the mbira, the ensemble celebrates the beauty, power and ingenuity of Zimbabwean culture.

The world famous San Jose Taiko has been mesmerizing audiences with the powerful, spellbinding and propulsive sounds of the taiko drums since 1973. Inspired by traditional Japanese drumming, SJT performers express the beauty and harmony of the human spirit through the voice of the taiko as they strive to create new dimensions in Asian American movement and music."

How to help? We are going to need help at the Conference to take good care of our wonderful performers, including schlepping instruments (Orff people know how to do this right...) arranging food and refreshments, and generally making our artists glad they came. Contact Maddie Hogan (maddiehogan@hotmail.com) and Doug Goodkin (goodkindg@aol.com) to make yourself available for this important work.
