OCTOBER 10, 2009, SUE SNYDER: MUSIC AND ARTS TAKE CENTER STAGE FOR LEARNING

When we teach music and movement, we also teach a range of skills that are necessary for learning, and are the foundation of learning in all subject areas. This session explores how multi-modal teaching and learning have been effective in reaching all learners, particularly those who are not successful in traditional classrooms. Oh, yes, and we'll have fun! NOTE: Workshop participants may not park north of California Street on 32nd Avenue.

FEBRUARY 27, 2010, DAVID ADEE: BEYOND SAN JOSE WITH THE ART OF PLAY

Come along as we journey beyond San Jose with the Art of Play! Explore teaching strategies for improvisation in theater, voice, percussion, xylophones, recorders and movement. Nurture your own playful spirit while learning processes to facilitate student improvisation. Explore a path towards greater presence and fulfillment as a teacher.

APRIL 10, 2010, ANNETTE BAUER AND MARGARET MOORE: WELCOME IN THE SPRING: A Day of Recorder and Historical Dances Hillbrook School, 300 Marchmont Drive, Los Gatos
We will explore historical repertoire through movement and recorder. Plus May Day Carols and May Pole Dances. All levels are encouraged to join us in a beautiful setting for musical spring rituals!

NCAOSA was founded in 1973 to assist teachers, parents, and students in Northern California with the knowledge and process of Orff-Schulwerk.

Opening and Closing Sessions!  Members of the board (past and present) along with the guest clinicians have been developing the opening and closing events Friday night (8 pm) and Sunday (11-12 noon)! . . . the four elements, the four directions, stars, water, breath, the drum . . . We are excited about the direction the sessions are taking and can hardly wait to sing, move, meet, greet, create, and reflect with all of you.

Michell Kawaja - Expressive Arts, NIA Movement
(Re)Turn to the Body

Michell is a gifted teacher who brings out the joy ofmovement in students of all ages and bodies of all abilities. Through NIA movement, drawing and journaling she will help us get in tune with our own bodies and inspire new ways of thinking about moving with our students.
     

Claude Ferguson - Percussion, Sound Sculpture
(Re)Cycled Sounds

Claude will combine his fine arts background, RAFT teaching experience and percussion skills in a workshop where we will build a variety of instruments from recycled items. He also will guide us in creating a group sound sculpture to be played in the closing session.

Friday Evening Opening - games, songs, introduction of clinicians and more.
